How to Connect a PS2 to a PC

If you need to free up the connection ports on your TV set or are looking for a way to use the console with your laptop while going on a trip, it is possible to connect your PlayStation 2 video game console to a personal computer and play the games on the computer monitor. The one device you need for the connection is the video capture card, whose primary purpose is to give PCs the standard audio/video connections it doesn't normally come with.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect a video capture card to your PC that has RCA-style composite ports (the yellow, white and red ports), which every card should have. Insert the card into an available PCI slot on the computer, or connect an external card through the computer's USB port.

    • 2

Install the capture card's drivers on the computer. Insert the CD-ROM included with the card into your CD drive, and install all the software programs on it. This will also include a special media player application that works directly with the card.

    • 3

Link the PS2 console to the computer by connecting the console's audio/video cable to the capture card through the composite audio/video ports. Make sure the console is also plugged into a wall outlet.

    • 4

Open the media player application for the capture card and insert a game disc into the console. If you wish, you might be able to open another media application on your computer like Windows Media or QuickTime. Check the capture card's instruction book to see if it works with these applications.

    • 5

Turn on the PS2 console and look for its video to appear on the media application's screen. For best results (a bigger image), use the application's full-screen mode.
