Hooking Up Component Cables
Purchase a Playstation 2-compatible component cable from a video game or electronics store. The cable will have three to five male jacks of various colors on one end. This will cost between $15 to $35.
Plug in each jack to the corresponding female jack on your TV or entertainment system. If the TV does not have component jacks, purchase an adapter box that will plug into your TV via the cable connection. Adapter boxes can be found at various electronics stores. Prices are about $20 to $25 U.S. dollars.
Turn on the television and Playstation 2. Set the television to the video component in mode. If using the adapter box, set the TV to channel 3 or 4.
Activating Progressive Scan
Attempt to activate progressive scan with the Playstation 2 controller: When the Playstation 2 logo appears on the screen, press down the triangle and X repeatedly. If this method works, a prompt will come up and indicate that progressive scan is enabled. A compatible game disc needs to be in the Playstation 2.
Try this step if the button combination method fails to work: Turn off the PS2 and remove the game disc. Turn the PS2 back on and the default browser menu will load.
Select "System Configuration." Use the up and down buttons to locate "Component Video Out," which is the default setting. Below it there will be: Y CB/Pb Cr/Pr and RGB. Select X, and use the left and right arrow buttons to select one of these. Five-jack cables will use the first option, while three-jack cables will use the RGB option. Press X to confirm, and exit the menu.
Replace the game disc and play the game.
