How to Setup a Network Adapter for a PS2

Current generation systems such as the Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360 have built a following around their online offerings. The Playstation 2, while released six years prior to its successors, still has the capability to take gaming online. Using the Network Adapter, gamers are able to compete against other players around the world, download additional game content, and stay connected to the developers who create the games people play. New Playstation 2 models have an adapter built in, but for those who own the original iteration of the Playstation 2, here is how to install the PS2 network adapter.

Instructions

    • 1

Completely shut down and power off your Playstation 2. Insert the memory card into the port on the front of the system. Without a memory card, the system will be unable to complete the network adapter setup.

    • 2

Remove the cover to the Playstation 2 expansion bay located on the bottom left corner of the rear of the console. This is where the network adapter will be installed.

    • 3

Place the network adapter over the expansion bay. It should fit snugly into the area. Using the coin, tighten the screws located on the right and left side of the adapter.

    • 4

If you are using a dial-up connection, plug one end of the phone cord into the network adapter. Use the line connector on the left. The right connector is for an Ethernet cable.

    • 5

Plug the other end of the phone cord into the phone jack located in your house. Once both sides of the cord are connected, power on the PS2 and insert the network setup disc. Enter the information asked for on the disc, once complete the network adapter is ready for use.

    • 6

If you are using a broadband Internet connection, plug the Ethernet cable into the Ethernet connector, which is the right connector on the front of the network adapter. Plug the opposite end of the cable the Ethernet router or modem.

    • 7

Power on the PS2 and insert the setup disc. When prompted, enter all necessary information. Once complete, the PS2 will be connected to your broadband network.
