Things You'll Need
Instructions
Take apart your Playstation 2 by removing about seven screws on the bottom of your gaming console. After they have been taken out, detach the top half of your PS2 and you'll be on your way to fixing a Playstation 2.
Remove the four additional screws under the disc cover. Once you take off the disc cover you should be able to see the laser eye in the center. You will also see a dial towards the top of the area. Use a thin marker to mark the starting point of the dial because you will have to turn it three or four clicks.
Clean the eye with a Q-tip dabbed with a little alcohol. When you're finished, plug in the PS2 and replace the cover. Then turn it on and see if the disc read error is gone. If this doesn't work, unplug the PS2 and take the disc cover back off.
Take your finger and lift up on the top left hand corner of the square piece over the eye until it pops off. Then take the Q-tip and lift the eye up. Underneath is a mirror that can be cleaned the same way. Replace the plastic piece and disc cover, then turn the console on and test it again. This should solve your problem, but if it's still not working repeat the steps.
