  Unplug the power cord and the A/V cables from the back of the PS2. This is essential, because if power is applied to the system, you can receive an electrical shock. Also unplug any network connections if you have them. The extra cords are just a hassle if they remained attached.

  Flip the PS2 upside down. On the bottom of the system there are four soft grips and four hard plastic pieces. Use a flathead screwdriver or a fingernail to help remove the pieces. Set them aside in a bowl so they do not become lost.

  Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the eight screws that are located underneath the plastic pieces. Use a skinny head or else the shaft of the screwdriver will not reach down the holes. Set all of the screws aside.

  Use two hands to carefully flip over the PS2. Use a small blade to slice the sticker on the right side of the PS2. This voids your warranty for the product, so be aware of that before you cut the sticker off.

  Wiggle the case slowly until it starts to come off. The bottom of the front piece may clip on the edge of the game disc drive, so you will have to slowly adjust and move around this section.

  Flip the top over slowly and place it face down on the floor. There is a small wire connection from the eject and power buttons to the top of the case that must not be broken.

  Use a small Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screws to the outer DVD-Rom casing. Place the screws in a safe location because they are so small.

  Lift off the DVD casing to reveal the DVD drive and laser. This casing only needs to be taken off if you want to manually clean the laser on the DVD player. Do not touch the laser with your fingers or it could become permanently damaged.

  Clean the laser, remove parts and just examine the inside. If you want to remove any other parts of the PS2, then you can simply use the screwdriver to do so.
