Things You'll Need
Instructions
Hold down the X Button while flying. You have no limit on the amount of regular guns you can shoot, so you may as well be shooting all the time to maximize the chances of killing something.
Steer around obstacles with the left analog stick. While you can blow up smaller ships and some rocks and cards with focused fire, at the beginning your main task is to avoid running into things.
Gather the crystals that appear when you kill enemies. The first few levels have mostly standard crystals that don't matter much.
Fly wherever it takes to get the circles with shiny yellow centers. Even if it means you may miss 50 crystals, it's well worth it to grab one of these circles, which gives you blueprints for a new ship.
Watch your armor. If your green line is low, don't risk running into anything. You can also grab armor power-ups left by enemies to extend your life.
Build a better ship. This is hard to do until you're midway through the game and have bumped up the SYS and COM level of your garage (by buying upgrades from Cid), but once you have, it's time to put all those blocks to use. A Shield and a Life Cockpit are both ideal, other than that, just stack on the armor, guns, and engines until your ship is a powerhouse.
Press the Square button to use Haste thrusters and go faster. Press the Triangle button to shoot your lasers, if you've added some to your ship.
Continue collecting more crystals and adding to your ship. Once you've got a shield, laser, and life, you shouldn't have much trouble with the flight sections, but powering up your ship is still fun.
