Ancient Documents in Monster Rancher 4

The 2003 PlayStation 2 game "Monster Rancher 4" sticks to the staple of the series: "creating" monsters out of your own CDs, DVDs and other game discs that you place into the PlayStation system when prompted during the game. While raising, breeding and fighting monsters, you'll explore one of four lands looking for battling other monsters. When you win a battle, you may win items called "ancient texts," sometimes known as "ancient documents."
  1. What They Are

    • Ancient documents, which reveal in-game "Monster Rancher 4" history or battle tips, are a completely optional part of the game. You will not need to collect them in order to unlock any part of the adventure. However, you may enjoy trying to get a complete collection for your own satisfaction. There are nine complete volumes of ancient texts: Training Gadgets, 3 Ancient Deities, Modern Jungles, Monster Mysteries, Regarding AGIMA, The Elives School, Regarding IMa, Vizley's Monster and Regarding FIMBA. You will not know which ancient text you have until you bring it to the translator.

    What to Do With Them

    • Whenever you find an ancient text in battle, take it to the Ryuwn library. Speak with Doyle the librarian and show him your ancient texts when prompted. Doyle will translate them for you and keep them at the library. Whenever you want to read the history of the "Monster Rancher 4" world or get some tips on how to use items like training gadgets, return to the library, speak with Doyle and ask to read the information contained in the texts.

    Where to Find Them

    • Collecting all of the ancient texts can prove a challenge because they are randomly dropped as battle prizes. However, if you are determined to collect them all, devote time to battling and training in any of the four areas of the "Monster Rancher 4" world: Togle Cave, Kalaragi Jungle, Promiass Ruins or Kawrea Volcano. You cannot access Togle Cave until you become at least a Rank D Hunter. Kalaragi Cave unlocks when you achieve Rank C and Promiass Ruins and Kawrea Volcano unlock at Rank S.

    Text Errors

    • The English game translators made some noticeable errors in Doyle's translations of the ancient texts. Not only do some of the messages contain typos, but names are mixed up within the same texts. For example, in the "3 Ancient Deities" text, two deities are named "Fleria" and "Gadamon" in the first sentence. In a latter sentence of the same text, these same deities become "Phrelia" and "Gaderman."
