"Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3"
"Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3" is based on the entire "Dragon Ball Z" animated series, featuring over 35 characters from various points in the 291-episode run. To emulate the feel of the series, the graphics are cel-shaded to provide a look that is reminiscent of hand-drawn animation. Each character has faithfully reproduced from the show, having access to all of the moves they have used at any point in the series. The main game mode is Dragon Universe, in which you pick one of the 10 main characters from the animated series, such as Goku or Gohan, to fight in battles based on scenes from the show.
Dragon Arena
"Budokai 3" features a large number of unlockables, including Dragon Arena. To unlock Dragon Arena, you must complete Dragon Universe with each of the 10 available characters. Once completed, Dragon Arena is available as a playable level in Dragon Universe. Dragon Arena is a one-on-one battle where you can select any unlocked character to battle against any other character of your choosing, making this a good location if you want to level up a specific character. Upon winning, you are awarded experience, money and capsules, which can be used to teach your character new moves. Dragon Arena battles can be fought three different ways: you vs. the computer, you against a friend or pitting two computer opponents against each other.
Getting a Password
In Dragon Universe, each time a character wins a battle he is awarded experience. Once enough experience is gained, that character gains a level and can raise his statistics, such as attack power and health. After a character gains a level and distributes his statistics points, a password is shown on screen. This password acts as a record of your character at the current level; his statistics, moves and level are all saved within the password, which can then be shared with others. Popular examples of passwords are those that give you Level 99 characters, the maximum level a character can attain.
Using the Password
The passwords are for use in the Dragon Arena, allowing you to play as, or fight against, any character whose password you own. At the character selection screen in Dragon Arena, press "R1" on your controller and enter the password. If the password is entered successfully, the appropriate character is displayed on the screen. Where you input the password depends on if you are fighting as or against that character. For example, inputting the password while you are selecting your opponent makes the password character your opponent. Fighting against a higher level opponent increases the experience earned, allowing you to increase your character's level faster by making him fight against a high level password character.
