Know Your School
Big-name colleges or universities like Florida, USC, or Michigan will be easier to recruit with than smaller, less glamorous schools. Check the bottom of your screen when in the "My School" tab. Recruiting the positions listed there is necessary in rounding your team for the coming season. It is possible to land high-grade prospects if they haven't come too far in their search for schools yet.
Using the Prospect Search Function
You can use the "Sort" feature to filter your search by caliber, interest, or any other qualifier. Players with low star-quality and high awareness will learn faster than players with higher star-quality and lower awareness. Search by your offensive and defensive playbooks. A scrambling quarterback is not appropriate for a pass-focused offense. Seniors graduate, so recruiting depth behind them will ensure an experienced player will take their place.
Ranking
High-ranked players (starters) are easier to talk to than low-ranked players (third string, for example), especially if all have the same number of stars. A third-tier player won't mind his ranking if the first-tier player has a higher star-ranking. Your recruiting will be largely successful if you spend time proportionately. The higher a player is ranked on the list, the more time he deserves.
Calling Recruits
There is no competing with Michigan in terms of athletic facilities. This is true of other schools in various categories, and these stats are known to recruits. Tailoring your offers to a player's particular interests will increase your chances of landing recruits. Using pitches when importance is Most or Very High will have a positive effect on player happiness. Hard selling with players of less importance will have an adverse effect. Making empty promises will damage your level of Coach Integrity.
