How to Get a PS2 Wireless Guitar to Work

To get a PS2 wireless guitar to work with your PS2 console, the guitar has to be synched with its wireless receiver. If the devices are not synched, the receiver will not recognize the wireless commands from the guitar. The same basic process applies when connecting any PS2 wireless guitar to the console, regardless of the brand or model you̵7;re using. After running through the basic set-up procedure -- if you̵7;re having problems using the guitar controller -- there are some troubleshooting steps you can take.

Instructions

  1. Basic Set-up

    • 1

Remove the battery cover located on the back of your wireless guitar. Insert fresh batteries: The battery size may vary, depending upon the brand of guitar you are using. When installing the batteries, be sure to line up each battery̵7;s positive and negative ends according to the labels inside the battery compartment. Replace the cover.

    • 2

      Turn on the PS2 console.

    • 3

Plug the wireless receiver, which came with your guitar, into the first controller port on the front of the PS2 console. The LED light on the receiver should illuminate.

    • 4

Press the "Sync" button on the wireless receiver.

    • 5

Turn on the wireless guitar. If there is a sync button on your guitar, press it. Otherwise press any button. The LED light on the receiver should change in some way, indicating the guitar is synced to the receiver. For example, the LED light may go from steady blinking to a solid color.

    Troubleshooting Problems

    • 6

Verify that the guitar controller you are using is compatible with the game you̵7;re playing. If you do not have your PS2 wireless guitar manual, check the guitar manufacturer̵7;s website: There should be a list of games the controller is compatible with.

    • 7

Clear away any objects blocking the path between the guitar and the receiver. Since they communicate via radio waves, objects lying between the guitar and the receiver can disrupt the signal.

    • 8

Move closer to the PS2 console and make sure that you are standing within the line-of-site of the receiver. As previously stated, the guitar communicates with the receiver via radio waves; however, these waves have a limited range.
