Things You'll Need
Instructions
Unplug all cables, memory cards and handheld controllers from the PS2. This eliminates the risk of electric shock to yourself and prevents damage to your equipment.
Pry off the plate covering the casing screws from the bottom of the PlayStation 2 with a knife. Six to eight exposed screws holding the casing together should now be exposed.
Remove each casing screw with the appropriately sized Phillips screwdriver from your set. Place each of the screws into a plastic bag to prevent their loss during the system modification process.
Cut the tape holding the casing together with your knife. Sony uses this casing tape to determine whether the PlayStation 2 has been opened; if it has, the action voids the owner's warranty.
Separate the casing pieces by lifting the top toward yourself. Peel off the white sticker, if present, that connects to the "Power" and "Eject" switches.
Remove the four screws from the top of the CD/DVD drive with a Phillips screwdriver. Place each screw into the plastic bag to prevent loss. Remove the top cover from the drive; this will allow you to swap discs by lifting them out of place, instead of pressing the "Eject" button.
Replace the CD/DVD drive cover and the top casing piece. Tape the casing sides with electrical tape. Tape the right-side of the casing until you have three or four inches of tape on each side. Fold the end corner of tape to create a tab for lifting the top casing from the bottom. Repeat the taping process for the left side of casing, only this time do not fold the end corner.
Place a thick strip of electrical tape underneath the CD/DVD drive. Run the strip of tape above the USB/iLink connectors to keep the ports accessible. This allows for the upper and lower casing to swing as it is opened.
Purchase a coder disc from a reputable online shop or distributor. Swap Magic, GameShark and Action Replay all work by running the included on-disc software after insertion. You can then swap the disc for your game backup.
