How to Get Magic in Final Fantasy XII

Acquiring magic in "Final Fantasy XII" -- as well as other offensive and defensive techniques -- requires you to make use of the game's license board. This board, which is similar in many ways to the sphere gird used in "Final Fantasy X," allows you to customize each character's specific abilities. Each of the main characters in the game can learn all of the different magic spells through use of the license board.

  Acquire license points (LP) by defeating random enemies. These points are used to unlock sections of the license board, including those containing magicks. You will need at least 15 points to unlock any magick sections, however some characters will require significant more points depending on how much of the license board they already have unlocked.

  Press the "triangle" button to open the main menu. Choose "Licenses" from this menu. Highlight a character's license board by using the directional pad and press "X" to choose that character.

  Unlock the licenses in the top left hand section of the upper portion of the license board. This is where all of the magic licenses are located. You can only unlock licenses that are adjacent to licenses that a particular character already has unlocked, so it may take a significant amount of LP for some characters to reach the magic licenses. Purchase licenses by highlighted them with the directional pad, pressing the "X" button and choosing "Yes" from the menu that appears.

  Remember to update your character's license boards as you play through "Final Fantasy XII." This is the best way to acquire enough LP to unlock the strongest spells in the game without boring yourself with seemingly endless battles against weak enemies.
