What Does Sweep Mean in Some Fatalities to 'Mortal Kombat: Deceptions' for PS2?

In "Mortal Kombat: Deception," "sweep" refers to the area you must place your character to correctly perform a finishing move, or fatality. This aspect of the process allows you to perform violent and gruesome maneuvers to your opponent once you have beaten him in two out of three rounds of combat.
  1. Fatality Basics

    • After defeating your opponent in "Mortal Kombat: Deception," the words "Finish Him" appear on the screen, and you have a limited amount of time to set your character up and perform a fatality. A fatality requires you to place your character in a specific spot in relation to your opponent and press a sequence of buttons. If done correctly, your character will "kill" your opponent in a creative fashion. Each character is assigned two specific fatalities.

    Sweep

    • When a fatality requires sweep distance, you must place your character just outside of punching range from your opponent, but close enough to that you could still perform a leg sweep. A leg sweep is the maneuver performed by pressing the directional pad away from your opponent while simultaneously pressing the "low kick" button. Once you've placed your character within sweep distance, you can begin to press the combination of buttons required to perform a fatality.

    Close and Far

    • "Close" and "far" are other distances in which you must place your character to perform fatalities. "Close" refers to placing your character directly next to your opponent, where you cannot move any further toward him. "Far" is the least sensitive distance that allows you to stand at least one jump's length away from your opponent and still complete a fatality.

    Additional Information

    • "Mortal Kombat: Deception" also allows you to perform a "Hara Kiri" to your defeated opponent. It is completed in the same manner as a fatality, as far as spacing and button sequences, but instead of performing a violent act on your opponent, your character performs one on himself. Each character's fatalities require specific spacing and button presses. Practice the setup and button combinations for consistent success. Certain stages also have fatalities that any character can perform, allowing you to use the elements in the background on your opponent.
