How to Hook Up a PS2 to a TV That Doesn't Have Three Colored Prongs

The PS2, or PlayStation 2, was the second version of Sony's popular PlayStation line of video game consoles. It was released in 2000, and boasted better graphics and sound, larger onboard memory, and the ability to play a new catalog of games as well as games designed for the PlayStation 1.

The PS2 used RGB cables to plug into a TV -- one yellow video cable and a set of red and white cables for audio. This meant that the television you were using to play your PS2 had to have the RGB inputs. However, there is a way to use these cables with a television that has only a cable (coaxial) input.

Instructions

    • 1

Plug in the RF modulator. The RF modulator "modulates" the signals coming from RGB cables, and this process requires AC power.

    • 2

Plug the PS2's RGB cables into the appropriately-colored inputs on the RF modulator.

    • 3

Plug one end of the coaxial cable into the RF modulator's output, and plug the other end of the cable into the coax input on the back of your television.

    • 4

Set the channel-select switch on the RF modulator to reflect the programming in your area. If you have a local TV station broadcasting on channel 4, set the switch to channel 3 and vice versa. Tune your television to the same channel.

    • 5

Turn everything on. The RF modulator will send the signals from your PS2 to your television set's coax input.
