How to Hook a PS2 Up to HDTV

Sony's PlayStation 2 is able to connect to an HDTV using several different methods. You can use the RCA cables that are supplied with the unit or opt for component cables to take advantage of the high fidelity of the HDTV. A third and most expensive method calls for the use of an HDMI cable and an HDMI converter. Any way you choose to connect the PlayStation 2 to your HDTV can be accomplished in minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Situate the PlayStation 2 console on a shelf or stand near the HDTV. Plug the power cable input into the AC input on the rear panel of the console. Plug the power cable into the wall outlet or surge protector strip.

Choose the method by which you will be connecting your PlayStation 2 to your HDTV. If you choose the RCA cables, you will be able to connect the unit to the HDTV with the included AV Multi out system. If you choose the component cables to connect to your HDTV, you will need to purchase a separate AV Multi out cable system from a game console supply outlet or online retailer.

    • 3

Plug the PlayStation AV Multi out connector you have chosen into the AV output on the rear panel of the console. The AV output is located on the bottom-right corner of the PlayStation 2's rear panel.

Route the cables to the panel of inputs on your HDTV. Plug the cable connectors into the inputs on the HDTV by following the color-code on the inputs. Take not of the labeling on the HDTV's panel of inputs so that you can choose the correct input to play the game system.
