How to Burn a PS2 Game You Already Own

Backing up your favorite PlayStation 2 games, just in case something happens to the original, seems like a good, sensible idea. Copying your PS2 games does not have to be some kind of nigh-impossible task, all you need is the right software (that can overcome the original game discs' built in security measures and some blank DVDs.

Things You'll Need

  • Blank DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R or DVD+RW
  • PS2 game to copy
  • DVD-ROM drive capable of writing to DVDs
  • "DVD Decrypter"
  • "Alcohol 120%"

Instructions

  1. Getting the Software

    • 1

      Download the latest version of "DVD decrypter" from Brothersoft.

      Install "DVD Decrypter" by double clicking on the file once it has finished downloading.

      Download the program "Alcohol 120%."

    • 4

      Install "Alcohol 120%" by double clicking on the file once it has finished downloading.

    Copying Your PS2 Game

      Insert the game that you want to copy into the DVD-ROM drive of your computer.

      Open "Alcohol 120%" by double clicking on its icon and click on the "Image Making Wizard" option, which can be found on the left side of the window.

      Choose the drive that contains your PS2 Game from the pull down menu near the top of the "Image Making Wizard" window.

      Click on the "Next" button, and then choose a place on your computer to save the copy of your PS2 game. Click on the "Start" button to continue the process. When the process is finished you will have two image files, one that is a ".mdf" and one that is a ".mds."

      Remove your PS2 game from the DVD-ROM drive.

      Open "DVD Decrypter" by double clicking on its icon.

      Click on the "Mode" option found at the top of the window. Then select "ISO" and click on the "Write" option.

      Select the ".mds" file that you have already created. Make sure that the drive containing your blank DVD is selected from the pull down menu labelled "Destination." Choose a burn speed of 4x or 8x, whichever is the lowest one available to you.

      Click on the icon that shows an arrow pointing from a picture of a hard drive to a picture of a disc labelled "DVD" to begin copying your game from your computer to your blank DVD. Once this process has finished you will have a backup copy of your PS2 game.
