Things You'll Need
Instructions
Remove any memory cards, controllers and disks from the PlayStation before beginning and disconnect the power and A/V cords. Leave your soldering iron to begin heating. Take a plain piece of paper and draw four sections, marked from A to D.
Unscrew the five screws from the back of the PlayStation and remove the top cover. Place these screws on section "A" of the paper. This will help you remember which part of the PlayStation the screws relate to when you reassemble the unit.
Carefully pull the connector upwards to remove it from the main body. Locate the other, copper-colored, connector and detach it from its base. Do this by lifting the base and sliding the cable out. Remove the laser housing unit last.
Detach the cable, beside where the connector was located, by unlocking the ribbon and lifting the socket up. Remove the ribbon from the black socket by pulling upward.
Unfasten the five screws from the metal bracket and place them on section "B" of your paper. Detach the metal bracket.
Remove the cable from the controller/memory card housing, followed by the housing unit itself. Unscrew the five screws from the main bracket and place them in section "C" of the paper.
Unscrew the three screws holding the circuit board in place, then position them on section "D" of the paper. Detach the circuit board from the PlayStation and lay it upside down.
Leave the cover wrapped around the chip to avoid allowing the chip to make direct contact with the board. Cut the visible metal wire to the same size as the soldering area. Turn the board so that the opposite side faces upward.
Consult your mod chip soldering diagram to locate the positions where you need to solder each wire. Heat up the points you will be soldering to; add a small quantity of solder to each. Position each wire in turn to the solder spot and reheat to affix them to the board.
Complete the stages in reverse to reconstruct the PlayStation. Begin by playing with an original version game to test your system.
