How to Clean Dust Out of a PS2 Slim

Released in September 2004 as a major upgrade from the original PlayStation 2, the PS2 Slim provided gamers with almost all the same perks --- except for the removal of the hard disk and the addition of Ethernet connectivity --- in a much slimmer and more portable console. Unfortunately for millions of lazy gamers, the slimmer gaming console isn't any easier to clean than its chunky predecessor. Suffice it to say, you're going to have to put on some overalls, pull up your sleeves and get your hands dirty for this one.

Instructions

    • 1

Place your PS2 Slim in standby mode by holding down the "Reset" button until the LED turns red. Disconnect all peripherals, including power cords, network cables, game discs, game controllers and memory cards.

    • 2

Use a low-powered vacuum cleaner --- preferably one with a hose --- along the rear-positioned system vents to suck out all the dust from inside the PS2 Slim. Spray the vents with a bottle of canned air and then vacuum again, in the same manner as before, if the dust doesn't come loose at first with vacuuming alone.

    • 3

Wipe away the dust on the exterior of the PS2 Slim with a soft, dry cloth that you've moistened with a splash of water. Don't moisturize the cloth with any chemical solutions.
