Stay out of Miroku's range. Many of his attacks have the distance of two to three times the space his body takes up. Do not underestimate his range. Instead, stay far back from Miroku until you are ready to attack.
Move constantly. Although staying out of Miroku's range will help you avoid most of his attacks and buy time for planning yours, he still has some extremely long-range attacks. These include his Spirit Ward attack, which goes completely across the screen. To avoid this type of attack, ducking is not enough. This projectile can only be blocked or avoided by jumping.
Guard against the Wind Tunnel attack. The wind tunnel attack is where Miroku summons beams of light around his body and points his hand toward you. This attack shoots a beam of light at you and can take off one-third of your health. One of the key strategies to defeating Miroku is guarding this attack, preventing the massive loss of life. You can guard this attack on the ground or in the air. You cannot hurt Miroku when he is casting this spell. Do not rush in to attack, however tempting it may be.
Wait for Miroku to use the Spirit Hold attack. This attack takes advantage of his long-range capabilities. It is a particularly damaging attack, and therefore has disadvantages when whiffed. The spirit hold attack is easy to recognize: Miroku summons a shining talisman in the space in front of him. If you happen to be in this space, you will be hit and take heavy damage. However, if you take advantage of the slow speed of this attack and rush in while he is summoning the talisman, you can attack for heavy damage. The time involved in the Spirit Hold attack is one of Miroku's main weaknesses. To kill Miroku, you should take advantage of this. It's your main opportunity to do heavy damage to Miroku.
