How to Connect a Pen Drive to a PS2

The PlayStation 2 was the last Sony video game machine to use proprietary memory formats to save games and data. The memory cards that are used with the PS2 are very similar to the PS1 memory cards, however they offer more storage. The curious thing is that the PS2 comes with USB ports on the front of the machine much like its successor, the PS3. The PS3 can use USB pen drives for game saves and even entire games. The PS2, however, cannot. What the PS2 can do with those USB ports on the front is save downloaded data for games that accept that specific format.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the pen drive into a computer's USB port. Click the "X" button on the auto-run window that comes up to dismiss it.

    • 2

Click the "Computer" option on the desktop or click the "Folder" icon on the taskbar to show a list of all installed drives on the computer.

    • 3

Right-click the pen drive icon and click "Format" on the contextual menu that comes up.

    • 4

Click "File system" and click "FAT32" as the type of file system for the pen drive. This is the only non-proprietary format the PS2 can read.

    • 5

Click the box next to "Quick Format" to enable it.

    • 6

Click "Start" at the bottom of the "Format" menu to format the pen drive into a FAT32 pen drive.

    • 7

Pull the drive out of the computer and insert it into the PS2's USB port on the front of the machine. The pen drive can now be used with games that accept this type of memory format, like "SOCOM 3."
