How Do I Block a FG on Madden 10 on PS2?

The 17th installment of the popular football franchise, "Madden NFL 10" allows players to take control of any of the NFL's 32 teams to play games head-to-head or against the computer. Known for its realistic, nuanced game play, "Madden" gives players the ability to control every aspect of playing as a team. Blocking a field goal is one of the more difficult plays to execute; it can shift the momentum of a game, and decide who comes out on top when the clock strikes zero. Blocking a field goal, or FG, requires a player to use the right personnel while executing the proper timing.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the in-game roster menu and select the "Substitution" icon. Scroll through the special team formations, and select the "Block FG" formation. Highlight either one of the defensive tackles in the middle of the formation and press the "X" button to bring up your roster's depth chart.

    • 2

Press right on the left control stick to scroll through the attributes of the players on your roster until you reach "FIN Move." Press the "Triangle" button to organize your roster so the player with the highest "Finesse" move rating will move to the top of your depth chart. Press the "X" button to insert that player into the middle of your "Block FG" formation.

    • 3

Press the "X" button right before the snap of the football to get a jump on the center. Press either left or right on the right control stick to use a player's swim move to get around the center. Players with a high finesse attribute can move more quickly around opposing players.

    • 4

Run toward the ball and press the "Y" button to jump up and block the field goal attempt. Line your player up with the kicker's right foot to ensure that you will have the proper angle to block the ball. Once blocked, the ball becomes "live," and needs to be recovered in order to prevent your opponent from advancing it down field.
