How to Install a PS2 Emulator on a Laptop

PlayStation two is a popular and outdated gaming council that was the gateway into gaming for a lot of people. With these consoles dying out and no longer in production, many people are looking for ways to hang onto their favorite titles. One way to continue playing your favorite PlayStation two games without having a PlayStation two is to install a PlayStation two emulator on your laptop.
  1. Emulators

    • To run PlayStation two games on your laptop, you need an emulator. Many fan-made emulators are floating around, one of the more popular and regularly updated being Sony's PSX emulator. These emulators will store the core programs needed to run PlayStation two games on your laptop, while some contain all the files needed in a root folder. Others will need to install the software on their laptops.

    PSX BIOS

    • BIOS are the system specific programming. BIOS contain the regional settings and themes along with other core programs required to play PlayStation two games. There are two ways of getting the BIOS onto your computer. The first is to actually plug your PlayStation two into your computer and use Sony's programs to locate and extract the BIOS. The second is to download a BIOS pack that has already been prepared online. However, please note that downloading a BIOS pack for a system that you do not own is illegal.

    Video Plug-ins

    • The PlayStation two runs on different video hardware than most latptop computers. Because of this, you will need to download a video plug in which is a custom-made program used so that video and graphics cards can run programs specifically designed for other video cards. See what graphics card you are using in order to figure out what PSX plug-in you need to download.

    Configuring PSX

    • Sony's PSX will launch a configuration wizard the first time you try to run it. This wizard will run through all aspects of the PSX, like the video card options, sound options, frames per second rate and screen resolution, giving you the chance to make sure that everything is running properly and to tweak the emulator to your liking. During this step, you can also configure your controller options similarly to changing controller options in a game. However, changing it in the wizard will save the settings for all games instead of just that individual play.
