How to Fix Scratched PS2 Disks With Brasso

A scratch on a PlayStation 2 disc can present a variety of problems, including failure to start a game properly recorded on the disc, abrupt stopping during gameplay, or presentation of an error on your screen stating the disc cannot be read. Remove scratches by using Brasso, a commercial brass cleaner available in grocery, retail, hardware and home improvement stores. The brass cleaner works as a rubbing compound and buffs out scratches without damaging your PS2 discs.

Instructions

    • 1

Put on latex gloves and a nose mask to keep Brasso off of your hands and out of your nose. Hold the PS2 disc by its edges to keep from touching the disc's grooves.

    • 2

Apply 1 teaspoon of Brasso to a lint-free cloth or cotton swab. Rub gently in a circular motion around the scratch you want to remove. Work out from the scratch, then inward. Do not apply too much pressure when rubbing --- this will produce more scratches.

    • 3

Continue rubbing the scratch until it is gone. Rinse the disc under cold running water to remove any Brasso residue.

    • 4

Dry the disc gently with a clean, lint-free cloth by wiping from the inner rings of the disc outward.
