Download the Codebreaker application onto your computer.
Insert the Sony PS2 memory card into the memory card reader, then plug the USB cable of the memory card reader into an available USB port on your computer. A folder for the memory card will automatically appear on your computer desktop.
Drag-and-drop the Codebreaker application file into the memory card folder, then remove the card from the card reader. The process for removing the memory will differ by card reader type. Consult the card reader instruction for the proper way to remove the memory card.
Insert the PS2 memory card into the "Memory Card" slot on the side of the gaming system, then press the "Power" button to turn on the system. As the system turns on, the Codebreaker program will automatically install itself and open the Control Panel screen.
Use the "Left/Right" arrow buttons on your controller to scroll to the "Settings" icon on the Control Panel screen, then press the "X' to select it.
Scroll to the "Browser Settings" option, then the "SMS" screen. This will open a listing of browser setting options.
Select "mc0:/BDDATA-SYSTEM/BOOT.elf" from the options list, then select "Save" and "Exit" by press "X" on the controller. This will open the FreeMCBoot 1.5 (a softmodding application) option on the screen.
Press the "X" button on your controller to install the FreeMCBoot application, then press the "Power" button to turn off the system. Press the "Power" button again to restart the system and it will be softmodded.
