Things You'll Need
Instructions
Disconnect the power cord, controllers and any other cord connected to the PS2.
Place the PS2 upside down on a flat, firm surface in a well-lit work area.
Locate the four soft grips and the four hard plastic sections. Using a flat-head screwdriver, remove these sections and place them safely aside.
Remove the eight screws underneath these plastic sections using a Phillips screwdriver. Place all of the screws safely aside.
Turn over the PS2 again and remove the sticker on the right side of the unit. Be aware that doing this will void the warranty of the console.
Wriggle the case cover gently until it begins to slip off.
Turn the top over and put it down on the surface. Be careful not to break the wire connection from the power and eject buttons at the top of the case.
Remove the Phillips screws from the outer casing of the DVD driver. Place these in a safe location since they are easy to lose.
Lift away the DVD casing to access the DVD driver and laser. If you wish to manually clean the laser, remove this casing. Be careful to avoid touching the laser with your hands since this may damage it.
Clean the internals of the PS2, including the laser. Any other parts can be simply removed using a screwdriver and replaced if necessary.
