How to Play a PS1 Backup on a PS2 With GS

The PlayStation 2 gaming system will not normally play CD-R back-up games. To enable the play of back-ups, the system needs to have a mod chip or the user has to use a swap disc method. Using the swap disc method, the system has to have a start-up disc, like a GameShark disc. GameShark discs are sold at stores selling video games and equipment. Once the GameShark disc starts the PS2, the user manually opens the disc drive and swaps the GameShark disc with a back-up game disc.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the front panel of the PS2 game drive tray. It snaps on and off easily, but be careful not to break it.

    • 2

Insert the GameShark memory card into the PS2 memory card slot and place the GameShark 2 disc into the game drive.

    • 3

Choose "Start Game" from the GameShark options menu, and then choose "without." The message "Please insert game disk and press X to continue" should appear on the screen.

    • 4

Slide the white tab (which can be seen with the drive tray cover removed) all the way to the right with a flat plastic card/credit card and manually pull the tray open. Do not press the eject button.

    • 5

Pull out the GameShark disc and replace it with the back-up copy of the PS1 game.

    • 6

Close the PS2 game tray by gently pushing it back into place and, with a paperclip, slide the white tab back to its original position.

    • 7

Press "X" on the PS2 controller and the game will load.
