Instructions
Check the basic requirements to operate PS2 correctly. Set the TV to the correct mode, ensure the cables at the back of the console connect to the video- and audio-in ports on the TV, verify that the power cord is plugged in and standby mode is switched off. Pressing the power button cancels standby mode and turns the PlayStation on.
Make sure the controllers and memory cards are all firmly plugged in. A loose connection will prevent the PlayStation receiving input from the controllers and reading data on the memory cards. Never unplug a memory card when the PlayStation is switched on.
Turn on your home theater system or turn up the volume on your TV if the you do not hear sound during the game. A TV connected to a surround sound system might not play sound through its built-in speaker.
Eject the game and check the disc for scratches, fingerprints or signs of damage. Try playing another game or a music CD to test whether the console can read discs properly. Try using a lens cleaning CD if the PlayStation 2 has trouble playing games. Some PlayStation 1 titles may not play properly on the PlayStation 2 despite the console's backwards compatibility.
Unplug the PlayStation and move to a cooler location if the red status light starts flashing. The console stops working in hot, humid locations or if the vents around the sides of the console are blocked. Wait 30 minutes before using the PlayStation again.
