How to Fix Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Disc Errors for the PS2

Gamers know how frustrating it is to try and play a game, only to get an error message. On the PlayStation 2, if something is wrong with either the disc or your PS2 system, it is not uncommon to see a "Disc Read Error" (DRE) when you first place a game in the tray or while accessing a certain part of the game. "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" is not exempt from encountering errors. Don't go buy a new one without first trying to complete some basic at-home repair steps.

Instructions

    • 1

Examine your disc for smudges. Pour a small splash of rubbing alcohol on the lint-free cloth and gently rub the smudges away.

    • 2

Turn your PS2 system on its side to place it vertically instead of horizontal. Sometimes the system has better success reading discs in this position.

    • 3

Place two 1-inch pieces of clear tape on either side of the center of the game disc. The scotch tape lifts the CD up slightly to allow the laser to read the disc more easily. You can take it a step further and place four pieces on the CD to make a square around the center hole of the disc.

Use your vacuum cleaner to blow dirt and dust out of your PlayStation 2 around the fans. The PS2 laser has a problem reading discs if it's dirty. You may also want to open the cover and blow some air in to remove dust from the laser's eye.
