How Do I Reconnect My DualShock 2 Controller?

The Sony PlayStation 2 video game console uses a wired analog controller with pressure-sensitive buttons, known as the DualShock 2. Not all PlayStation 2 games use the analog functions of the DualShock 2, so a small LED light on the controller is used to identify when the game being played is accepting analog input. Controllers can become disconnected when switching between analog and non-analog input methods and must be reconnected. Dust and loose physical connections also contribute to DualShock 2 controllers becoming disconnected.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug all DualShock 2 controllers from the PlayStation 2 console.

    • 2

Remove any dust or debris from the controller plug and wait for three to five seconds.

    • 3

Reinsert the plug of a single controller firmly into the first controller port.

    • 4

Press the "Analog" button in the center of the controller. If the red analog LED turns on, the controller has been reconnected properly. If the light does not turn on, repeat the steps listed above.

    • 5

Repeat Steps two through four for each controller until all controllers are reconnected.
