How to Remove & Unlock a Frozen PS2 HD Due to Keyboard Error

PS2 hard drives are used to save game information while you are playing. It can also be used to save audio and video information that can be played back on the PS2. The PS2 is equipped to handle USB keyboards. Some PS2 users experience a hard drive freeze when inserting a keyboard.

      Place the PS2 onto a table so that the rear of the PS2 is facing you. Unplug the power cable that is connected in the back of the PS2.

      Remove the two screws on the back of the PS2's expansion cover with either a Phillips screwdriver or a penny.

      Pull the entire hard drive out of the expansion slot of the PS2. Pull the actual hard drive portion out of the expansion connector that was just removed.

      Locate the hard drive jumper connection and move the plugs into the "Master" position. The proper position varies from hard drive to hard drive, but they will be color-coordinated on the jumper itself.

      Place the hard drive into the expansion connector and insert the hard drive back into the PS2's expansion slot. Tighten the two screws. The hard drive should now be fixed.
