How to Soft Mod a PS2 Fat With Action Replay

"Soft modding" a gaming console such as the PlayStation 2 involves using software to change some aspect of the way that console operates. Unlike hard modding (which involves the installation of a mod chip on the inside of the unit), soft modding does not violate the terms of use of the console and does not void the warranty. You can use an Action Replay to soft modify a "fat" PlayStation 2 model to play DVDs from regions other than Region 1.

  Insert a memory card into the memory card slot on your PlayStation 2.

  Insert your "Action Replay" disk into the tray on your PlayStation 2. The "Action Replay" main menu will load.

  Eject your "Action Replay" disk, and insert the DVD movie you want to watch. The main "Action Replay screen will remain on your television set.

  Use the "Left" and "Right" arrows on your Dual Shock controller to select the region of the DVD you are trying to watch. For example, if you imported the DVD from Britain, select "Region 2."

  Press "X" on your controller. The PlayStation 2 will now play the disk you have inserted the same way it would on a DVD player from that region.
