How to Get the Deathbringer Early in FF XII

Play the game until the party battles the Mimic Queen and escapes the Barheim Passage. Travel to Rabanastre, the starting city in the game.

Enter Rabanastre and go to Batahn's Technicks which is located in the eastern side of the city. Most of the shops in this city are located in this one zone. Batahn's Technicks can be located on the map if you press the "select button". Travel to Batahn's Technicks and walk through the door.

Walk to the shopkeeper in Batahn's Technicks, located in the rear of the room away from the door. While facing the shopkeeper, press the X button to speak with the shopkeeper.

Purchase "Poach" from the shopkeeper for 7000 gil. Highlight "poach" with the cursor and press the "X" button to purchase the item. After purchasing Poach, leave the shop.

Travel to the Garamsythe Waterway which is located under Rabanastre. The entrance to this location is found in Lowtown, the underground section of Rabanastre. In Lowtown the entrance to Garamsythe Waterway is in the north-western corner of the map.

Enter the Garamsythe Waterway. The room you enter with the Save Crystal will look like a "D". From the bottom of the D, count up four passageways along the curve of the "D". Enter the fourth passageway. This will lead you to an area which you have previously explored.

Be careful in the other areas of Garamsythe Waterway. There are two levels of foes in this zone, one very low and one very high. At this point of the game the higher level foes can kill you instantly.

Fight both Ghosts and Garchimacera in this area. Ghosts look like floating creatures reaching out for you and Garchimacera look like flying imps.

Battle both monsters until they are at "critical" status condition. Monsters will blink red when this occurs. At this point you can use the technick "poach" to turn the creature into an item. Access the combat menu by pressing the "X" button, then scroll down to "magicks &technicks". Press the "X" button to enter a secondary menu. Highlight "technicks" with the cursor and press the "X" button. Choose "poach" from the list and press the "X" button to use it.

You will need to collect at least 7 Demon Tails from the Garchimacera and 10 Dark Crystals from the Ghosts. Each creature can be poached for several different items, so you will need to continue fighting the creatures until you have the required number of items.

Leave the Garamsythe Waterway the same way you entered. You will now need to proceed in the game until you reach the Salikawood.

Travel in the Salikawood until you come to the section of the map called the Corridor of Ages. Located in the Corridor of Ages is a Rare Monster called the Wood Toad. The Wood Toad is naturally invisible, so it will take some work to find the creature. It is located in the middle of the zone, with a 1 in 5 chance of spawning.

Clear out the Malboro enemies, large plant like creatures with sharp teeth, before trying to find the Wood Toad.

Cast the spell Reflect upon your group. Then in the middle of the area target your characters with an offensive spell, such as Fira. If the Wood Toad is there it will take damage and the battle will begin. You may need to cast the spell in several spots before finding the Wood Toad.

Use the technique "Steal" on the Wood Toad to collect Solid Horns. Multiple attempts might be required. Once you steal a Solid Horn, flee from the battle that you are in. This will speed up re-spawning of the monster. Enter and leave the area multiple times to fight the Wood Toad. You will need to collect 4 Solid Horns.

After collecting all the required items needed you will need to find a merchant to sell the items to. Merchants can be found all around the world, but there are no merchants in the zone that you are in.

Travel southeast from the Corridor of Ages into the Grand Bower and finally into the Quietened Trace. In the Quietened Trace area is an orange Save Crystal which will allow you to travel to any other orange Save Crystal you have encountered in the game. Touch the Save Crystal with your character and press the "X" button. Choose "teleport" from the list of options and choose a city to travel to.

Travel to any merchant and sell all the items you have collected. Selling all the items will trigger a warning that new items are in the Bazaar. Scroll down to the 'Bazaar' in the merchant's menu and press the "X" button. The Bazaar should have the item "The Leering Blade" that you can purchase for 14,800 gil. Purchase the item and you will receive Deathbringer.
