How to Breed a Golden Chocobo

In Final Fantasy VII, the iconic chocobo characters become raceable, breedable beings. Your characters travel to the Gold Saucer, where chocobo racing reigns supreme and is supremely profitable. The most sought-after breeding result, gold chocobos possess incredible skill, stamina and speed that allow them to demolish their competition on the track. The gold chocobo cannot be purchased. Instead, it can only be obtained through the careful breeding and husbandry of your chocobo stock and by feeding the chocobo the correct type of feed.

Instructions

    • 1

Catch chocobos in the wild using Sylkis greens and Reagen greens, then take the chocobos to Chocobo Billy to appraise them. Chocobos appear when your characters walk over the chocobo tracks on the map. The greens are found as incidental items from battles near the chocobo tracks and can also be purchased in shops in nearby villages. Good chocobos appear at the largest set of tracks located at the middle of the Western continent; great chocobos appear in two places, at the set of tracks at the very north part of the Western continent and at another, smaller set of tracks on the islands in the southeast corner of the map. After catching a chocobo, bring it to Chocobo Billy's farm at the center of the Eastern continent. Repeat until your stock contains one good chocobo and one great chocobo of opposing genders -- one male, one female.

    • 2

Mate the good chocobo and great chocobo together with a carob nut as feed. This combination produces either the mountain-crossing green chocobo or the water-ready blue chocobo. Repeat until you have a blue and a green chocobo of opposite genders in your stock.

    • 3

Take your blue and green chocobos to the Golden Saucer and follow the signs to the chocobo races. Speak to Ester from Corel Prison and accept the manager job, which allows you to race your chocobos. Race your blue and green chocobos until they are "A" class by competing and winning in three Class C races and three class B races. Mate the blue chocobo and the green chocobo using a zeio nut. This combination produces the black chocobo.

    • 4

Find a great chocobo of the opposite gender of your new black chocobo, either by catching one in the wild or using the one that produced the green and blue chocobos. Take this chocobo to the Golden Saucer and compete it in races, which improves the appraisal value along with the class, then have Chocobo Billy appraise it. Repeat races until it becomes a wonderful chocobo.

Mate the wonderful chocobo with your black chocobo using the zeio nut to produce the gold chocobo.
