How to Unlock Land on GTA 4

The world of "Grand Theft Auto 4" is comprised of several interconnected islands. When you first begin the game, you will only have access to a small part of the overall world map. Liberty City is a massive world based on real-life New York City, but you will not be able to roam freely until you have met certain criteria. If you want to complete "Grand Theft Auto 4," you will need to make every part of the map available and complete the challenges each place contains.

  Locate the nearest story mission to you. You will find it marked on your map.

  Complete the story mission. In "GTA 4," you will start by completing simple tasks for local gangsters, such as roughing up competitors or making deliveries.

  Continue to complete main storyline missions until you have become an integral part of the local crime syndicate. Eventually, you will drive a gangster to a new part of town or pick something up in a new area.
- 4
  Complete every main story mission to unlock all areas of the Liberty City map. Different areas unlock as you progress through the game's main narrative. You cannot skip ahead.
