Flying Cars
To fly a car that is fast enough to become airborne (nearly every car in the game), use the "Flying Cars" cheat by entering the following code: Right, R2, Circle, R1, L2, Down, L1, R1. Flying your car will allow you to soar over bridges and perform stunts. It will also wreck your car upon returning to the ground.
Flying Tank
To fly a tank in Grand Theft Auto 3, you must make your way to the bottom of the Callahan Bridge. When you are there, enter the "Flying Cars" cheat. Once you have successfully activated the "Flying Cars" cheat, use the "Tank" cheat by entering the following code: Circle, Circle, Circle, Circle, Circle, Circle, R1, L2, L1, Triangle, Circle, Triangle. A green Rhino tank will appear next to you. Get into the tank at the bottom of the bridge and point the barrel straight back (toward the bottom of the screen). Hit the accelerator button and begin firing the tank's gun. You will begin to lift off the ground when you reach the top of the bridge. Keep holding the accelerator and firing the gun if you want to stay airborne.
Entering Cheats
Enter Grand Theft Auto 3 cheats during gameplay. Try to hit the buttons in rapid succession to ensure that the cheat you are entering will be accepted. Pausing the game to type in the cheats will not work. A cheat activation notice will appear on the screen after successfully inputting codes.
Accessing the Dodo Plane
To be able to access the Dodo plane (the only flyable plane in the game), you must complete the Grand Theft Aero mission. Once you have done this, the Dodo plane will be available for use at the Francis International Airport. To fly this small propeller plane, you must hold down the R1 button to rev the engine. Then hold the down button to gain speed. Release the R1 button when you see sparks coming from the plane. The plane will begin to lift off the ground. Do not press the up button at any time during takeoff. Tap the right or left buttons to turn the aircraft. Holding these buttons will lead to a crash.
