Rage of the Titans
Rage of the Titans increases Kratos' attack power dramatically. To conserve your energy, you may want to deactivate it during a kill animation or when Kratos gets grabbed, in which case the gauge decreases without offering any positive effects. Changing into Rage of the Titans mode also frees Kratos from webbing or stone states. Only by activating Rage of the Titans can Kratos possibly survive after being turned to stone in midair. Otherwise, he inevitably falls and shatters.
Evasion Hint
Tapping the right analog stick in any direction causes Kratos to dodge-roll. During the middle of this animation, attacks cannot harm Kratos.
Plume of Promethius
The Plume of Promethius can launch enemies into the air or stagger them, making it a powerful defensive move. During the brief relief from enemy attack, Kratos can dodge-roll to a safer position or make more attacks against the enemy. Tap Square, Square and Triangle to execute the basic move or hit Triangle after any weaker combo of attacks.
Olympic Ascension
Execute Olympic Ascension by pressing and holding the Triangle button. The resulting attack causes the usual strong strike, which can often propel enemies into the air, followed by Kratos automatically jumping. This move allows Kratos to escape a crowd of enemies and focus his attack solely on the airborne enemy.
Parrying
Pressing the L1, or guard, button just as an attack lands causes Kratos to parry an attack, in an overall slow-motion effect. The technique can interrupt enemy attacks, unlike regular guarding.
Athena's Blades
The standard God of War weapons, Athena's Blades, suffice for virtually every situation, whereas the extra weapons gained at several points in the game do not. The Spear of Destiny offers some advantages for single, moderately-sized enemies with its quick thrusts. The Barbarian Hammer handles cumbersomely and requires many red orbs to upgrade.
Atlas Quake
The magic spell Atlas Quake causes Kratos to start pounding into the ground and start an earthquake that sends enemies helplessly into the air. While Kratos uses this spell, nothing can damage him. When a dodge roll cannot suffice in avoiding an attack, such as from very large limb or object, exploiting this trick can cause Kratos to avoid taking damage. Poseidon's Rage causes a similar effect, though not with quite the same ability to stun large enemies.
Grabbing
Although the act of grabbing an enemy cannot save Kratos from oncoming attacks, he cannot take damage once the grab animation begins.
