Devil May Cry 1 Secrets

"Devil May Cry" offers some secret gameplay modes, along with other bonuses, that become available after you meet certain conditions. The extra gameplay modes increase the longevity of your playing experience, as they allow you to play with new difficulty settings and extra characters. This adds new dimensions to the main game.
  1. Easy Automatic Mode

    • In "Easy Automatic" mode, your guns lock on targets without pressing the R1 button. In addition, your enemies deal less damage, Dante begins the game with several sword techniques and his health and DT bars are twice as long as normal. To unlock this mode, complete the first mission with a rank below a C, or use certain items during certain missions: use Vital Star or at least one yellow orb during mission one, at least one yellow orb during mission two and at least two yellow orbs during mission three.

    Hard Mode

    • When you complete the game on the normal difficulty level and select the gameplay file of your completed game, you can replay the game on "Hard" mode. You'll carry over all of the consumable items, red orbs, weapons and power-ups that you had at the end of your previous game. You can also select "Hard" mode whenever you begin a new game for a greater challenge. Beating the game on "Hard" mode unlocks Sparda as a playable character in place of Dante. Sparda wields the sword called "Yamato," which deals as much damage as the "Sparda" (Dante's sword).

    "Dante Must Die" Mode

    • After beating "Hard" mode, "Dante Must Die" mode raises the difficulty to extreme levels. Some bosses can kill Dante in as little as three hits, and enemies take little damage. In addition, items cost more red orbs, activating the Devil Trigger does not restore your health and a timer on certain enemy encounters threatens to enhance the power of these enemies if you can not eliminate them in time. To make this mode as easy as possible, collect as many red orbs as you can during your previous playthrough and carry them over into your game on this setting.

    Super Dante

    • As a reward for completing "Dante Must Die" mode, you can play a new, seemingly normal game as "Super Dante." When you first gain the ability to use the DT gauge, you will discover that it does not deplete, thus allowing you to stay in Devil Trigger mode (with all of its abilities) for as long as you like.

    Special Picture

    • If you complete the game with S-Rankings on every mission, you get a bonus picture showing Dante and many enemies from the game with the words "You Are The King of Hell" written across it.
