How to Stop TV Delay With a PS2

Depending on the type of game, TV delay can be unnoticeable or a major problem for gamers. TV delay is caused by the time it takes for the TV to process the signal coming from the PS2. On some TVs, the delay can be more than half a second. The problem is some games require split-second timing. TV can render sports games, rhythm games, first-person shooters and fighting games almost unplayable.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on game mode if your TV offers this feature. Game mode disables the extra picture processing features that cause lag.

    • 2

Check the game's manual. Some games have a timing calibration feature that can eliminate the delay.

    • 3

Switch from composite to component or HDMI cables. Image processing times can vary depending on the type of AV connection. The PS2 uses the same video connector as the PS3. Sony offers a component AV cable that fits both machines.

    • 4

Purchase an AV-to-VGA adapter. Most TVs do not have any filters or image enhancements on the VGA port, because it would affect the TV's performance as a computer monitor. AV-to-VGA adapters are made specifically for video games, and can convert the image much faster than the TV.
