Troubleshooting the "Disc Read Error" by cleaning and resurfacing the PS2 games are cost-effective ways to fix your system.

  Apply a couple of drops of disc cleaner to your game, then wipe it off with a disc cleaning rag. Both the disc cleaner and the rag are included in the disc cleaning kit. Wipe all the streaks off the game, then insert the game into the PS2 and try playing it.

  Apply the disc repair solution to the disc and place the game into the disc resurfacer. Turn the handle that spins the disc 10 times. Then, take the disc out, wipe it down and play it in the PS2. If this doesn't work, take the game out and repeat this process until you have spun the disc for the maximum number of times recommended by the disc resurfacer. Each spin takes off a bit of the surface of the disc, so you do not want to spin it more times than recommended.

  Insert another game into the PS2 and see if it plays. If the other game plays, the problem is with the game and not your system. If other games do not work, contact PlayStation to have your system checked. When talking to a representative, bring up any warranty information you have.
