How to Use a USB-Type Controller With a PS2

The majority of game controllers designed for the PlayStation 2 console used the dedicated controller inputs on the front of the device. However, over the course of the console's history a few different companies released third-party controllers that used the USB input on the back of the console. These controllers must be connected in a very specific way to ensure proper playback.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off your PlayStation 2 using the "Power" switch on the rear of the console. Shutting it off using only the "Power" button on the front of the console is not enough. The rear switch must be flipped to "Off."

    • 2

Plug your PlayStation 2 controller's USB cable into the PS2 console's USB input.

    • 3

Flip the "Power" switch on the rear of the console to "On." Press the "Power" button on the front of the console to turn on your PS2. Insert the game disc you want to play. You will be able to use the USB PlayStation 2 controller just like a regular controller.
