How to Kill a Colossus

"Shadow of the Colossus" is a popular game for the PlayStation 2 gaming console. Players must face and defeat giant monsters called Colossi in an attempt to bring the main character's beloved back to life. Being a tiny guy in the face of these behemoths can be quite intimidating. Fortunately, there are some fundamental strategies you can employ to swing the odds in your favor.

  Find a way to climb the Colossus. The easiest Colossus merely requires reaching its foot and climbing its hair, but others require more strategy, like shooting the bottom of its feet, luring its sword to a spot where you can climb it, or waiting to jump on its tail as it flies past. Each Colossus has a specific pattern of behavior you can exploit. Find that pattern and get on the beast.

  Stay on the Colossus. The Colossus will try to shake you off. Take a break every once in a while when climbing or crawling and grab on to its hair with the "R1" button. Your strength meter will deplete over time. Find a platform to safely rest after the Colossus stops shaking.

  Find the Colossus' weak spots. Most Colossus have three weak spots, but some have less. Raise your sword and a ray of light will make the weak spots glow. Make your way to these symbols by running along the creature's body or climbing the hair of the Colossus.

  Stab the glowing spots with your sword. Grab on to the Colossus' hair after each stab or climb back to the weak spot if you're thrown off the Colossus. Move on to the next weak spot after a few stabs. Stab all the weak spots enough and the Colossus will finally fall.
