Instructions
Turn off your PS2. Pull the memory card out of its slot on the front of the console. Turn your PS2 back on and see if it successfully loads the game. If it does, then you have a file on the memory card that is causing the problem. Insert the memory card and delete the game save that you were trying to load when the issue occurred.
Eject the game disc from the console. Take a clean, dry rag and gently wipe the data side of the game disc to remove any dust or dirt. Reinsert the disc into your PlayStation 2 and attempt to load the game again. If the game disc loads properly, then you've solved the problem by clearing the dirt
Insert a PlayStation 2 laser lens cleaning disc into your console. Follow the instructions on the cleaner's packaging and allow the disc to spin for the proper amount of time. Remove the cleaning disc and insert your game. If the game plays without incident, then the problem was the result of dust buildup inside the system. You can purchase laser lens cleaning discs at electronic stores like Target or Best Buy.
