"Boogie"
"Boogie" was released for the PS2 by Electronic Arts in 2007 and has both singing and dancing challenges. Players choose from a selection of five main characters and play through a story mode split into separate chapters. After completing chapters, players earn points, which can be exchanged for outfits or new songs. The game also includes a music video creation mode.
"Guitar Hero" Series
Neversoft's "Guitar Hero" series features several instruments. "Guitar Hero: World Tour" includes vocal tracks that are played with a microphone controller. Two other titles in the series, "Guitar Hero: Van Halen" and "Guitar Hero: Metallica," also include vocal tracks. Vocal performances are rated by pitch accuracy as well as style points. All three titles are available for the Sony PlayStation 2.
"Karaoke Revolution" Series
"Karaoke Revolution" players sing into a microphone controller to score points for songs across several music genres. Points are scored by being accurate in pitch and singing lyrics correctly. There are seven titles from the series available for the PS2: "Karaoke Revolution," "Karaoke Revolution Volume 2," "Karaoke Revolution Volume 3," Karaoke Revolution Party," "Karaoke Revolution: American Idol," Karaoke Revolution Country" and "Karaoke Revolution Presents American Idol Encore."
"Rock Band" Series
The "Rock Band" series, published by Harmonix, is comprised of two titles at publication date: "Rock Band" and "Rock Band 2." Both titles are available for the PS2 and feature an ensemble of music instruments, including a guitar, bass, drum set and microphone. "Rock Band 2" adds a keyboard controller. "Rock Band" singers are rated based on their pitch and rhythm and can choose from several difficulty settings for each instrument.
"Sing It" Series
The "Sing It" series is published by Disney and features family-friendly songs that are played in karaoke fashion with a microphone controller. There are four titles in the "Sing It" series available for the PS2. Two titles, "High School Musical: Sing It!" and "Disney Sing It! - High School Musical 3: Senior Year," feature songs from the "High School Music" film series. "Disney Sing It," released in 2008, has songs from Disney films and television shows like "Hannah Montana" and "The Cheetah Girls." "Disney Sing It: Pop Hits" was released in 2009 and has pop songs from artists like the Jonas Brothers and Coldplay.
"SingStar" Series
The "SingStar" series is the most prolific series in the music game genre, with over 25 titles available for the Sony PlayStation 2. Players sing into microphone controllers to score accuracy and style points, and can play in a head-to-head competitive mode with other singers. The game also features co-operative singing, in which players sing tracks together in a duet. Additional songs can be downloaded from the official SingStar SingStore.
