Ultimate Alliance Video Games for PS2

The origins of Marvel Comics can be traced as far back as 1939. It has since evolved into an empire that includes not just comics but also toys, movies and video games. Fans of Marvel enjoy playing Marvel's video games because it gives them the opportunity to experience the Marvel universe first hand. The "Ultimate Alliance" games allow players to be an interactive member of some of Marvel's most fierce fighting teams.
  1. Releases and Sales

    • Activision produces "Marvel Ultimate Alliance" and the sequel, "Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2." Activision also produces the "Call of Duty" series and various movie related games. The first "Ultimate Alliance" was released in 2006. In its first 10 weeks, the PlayStation 2 version of the game sold almost 400,000 copies. The sequel, "Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2," was released on the PS2 in 2009 and, as of 2011, it has sold 368,763 copies worldwide.

    The Stories

    • The first "Ultimate Alliance" allows players to assemble their own team of four heroes and take them through battles with various Marvel villains. The first game is less story-oriented and more about having fun and smashing things in a variety of different Marvel locations. "Ultimate Alliance 2" is driven by the story of a civil war between the Marvel heroes. The United States government has ordered superheroes and mutants to reveal their secret identities. The government is basically attempting to create a registry of superheroes. The Marvel heroes are divided in their stance on mutant registration.

    The Characters

    • Both games feature characters that make up some of Marvel's greatest superhero teams including the Fantastic Four, the X-Men and the Avengers. You can either play with these characters in their respective teams or you can mix and match whatever characters you feel like. Both games feature legendary heroes like Wolverine, Hulk, Spiderman and many others. You'll face villains like Magneto, Green Goblin and Venom. In "Ultimate Alliance 2," the pro-registration side is led by Iron Man. He is opposed by the anti-registration side, which is led by Captain America.

    Upgrades

    • "Ultimate Alliance 2" not only features a more detailed story mode, but it also increases your playing and customization options. "Ultimate Alliance 2" offers six additional heroes to choose from for your team raising your playable character options to 26. When you begin the story mode in Ultimate Alliance 2 you'll be asked to pick which side of the civil war you want to fight on. "Alliance 2" also features a new function that allows two heroes to combine their powers to make one devastating fusion attack.
