System Requirements
To stream movies from Netflix, you need a high-speed Internet connection rated at 1.5Mbps or higher. Anything slower makes for a frustrating experience. At this speed, movies will play, but you will have to exert patience. To watch Netflix with little or no hesitation, upgrade your service to at least 3Mbps.
Bandwidth Hogs
If you're on a network, your Internet is shared by multiple computers. The bandwidth is divided between the total number of devices, which doesn't leave much for Netflix to use. In addition, a wireless network can be utilized by other devices, like cellphones, iPods and gaming consoles. Refrain from browsing the Internet while Netflix is in use, and turn off programs that hog the Internet, like peer-to-peer software.
Signal Strength
Wireless networks broadcast signals to a limited area. The farther your PlayStation is from your wireless router, the weaker the signal is. If it is too weak, you might experience dropped connections and slow performance. Move the PlayStation 3 as close to the router is possible to improve the reliability of the connection. A wired connection does not suffer from signal degradation, so use a direct connection from the PlayStation to the router if possible.
Stream Quality
The clearer the video is, the faster your connection needs to be to download it. If you can't afford to upgrade your connection, log into your Netflix account and click "Your Account and Help." Scroll to the bottom and click "Manage Video Quality." From here, you can lower the quality setting to improve performance. The three options are "Good Quality," "Better Quality" and "Best Quality." It is set to "Best" by default. Change it to "Good" or "Better" to make your videos load faster.
