Instructions
Plug the USB cord of your controller into one of the USB ports on the front of the system if your controller is wired.
Turn on your PlayStation 3 system.
Press the PS button on your controller. This is the small, clear circle in the center of the front side of the controller. Mat Catz controllers also have a "Home" logo on them. The controller should activate and sync with the system.
Update your PS3 firmware if your controller does not sync. A few controllers do not work with the 3.50 update, but may work once again with the next update, as the purpose of constant updates are to fix small issues with previous versions of the firmware.
Sell or exchange your controller online or in a video game store if the controller does not work with the latest updates. Both the 2008 wired and wireless Mad Catz controllers along with the Wireless MicroCon stop working once you update your system to 3.50. Sony may choose not to resolve this issue, since they are all old controllers that are no longer sold in stores.
Purchase a new or used controller. As a business strategy to increase profit, video game companies often allow equipment, especially that from third-party companies, to become outdated so that you must constantly purchase new accessories. If you get one of the many current versions of the Mad Catz controller, they will all connect without problems, but may stop working with future updates.
