How to Change Controller Controls on PS3

One of the first hurdles for starting any new video game is to get used to the controls. Game designers generally try to make the layout for the controls as user-friendly as possible, but there is no way to universalize controller configurations. To this end, most games allow you to customize the controller options so you can jump right into a game without having to memorize alien controls. Because all games are different, you must do this for each game you buy.

Instructions

    • 1

Load the game for which you want to change the controls. Navigate to the "Game" menu, highlight the game icon when it appears, then press "Start" or "X" to launch the game.

    • 2

Allow the game to load to the main menu. Select "Options" from the list -- some games may also have "Controller", "Controller Options", "Controller Layout" or "Control Setup" as one of the main menu options, but this is atypical.

    • 3

Select "Controller", "Controller Options", "Controller Layout" or "Control Setup" from the "Options" screen. The option may also be called "Button Setup" or "Button Layout".

    • 4

Adjust the controller settings to your preferences. Most games allow you to at least customize the X-axis and Y-axis for movement and the camera, but some also allow you to completely reconfigure the action buttons -- this is especially true of fighting games.

    • 5

Save your changes. The way to do this varies by game, but you will always see on-screen instructions for this. You may be asked to press a button, usually "X" or "Start" or you may have to highlight an option, such as "Confirm", "Save Changes," or simply "OK".
