Instructions
Load the game for which you want to change the controls. Navigate to the "Game" menu, highlight the game icon when it appears, then press "Start" or "X" to launch the game.
Allow the game to load to the main menu. Select "Options" from the list -- some games may also have "Controller", "Controller Options", "Controller Layout" or "Control Setup" as one of the main menu options, but this is atypical.
Select "Controller", "Controller Options", "Controller Layout" or "Control Setup" from the "Options" screen. The option may also be called "Button Setup" or "Button Layout".
Adjust the controller settings to your preferences. Most games allow you to at least customize the X-axis and Y-axis for movement and the camera, but some also allow you to completely reconfigure the action buttons -- this is especially true of fighting games.
Save your changes. The way to do this varies by game, but you will always see on-screen instructions for this. You may be asked to press a button, usually "X" or "Start" or you may have to highlight an option, such as "Confirm", "Save Changes," or simply "OK".
