How to Activate a PS3 Controller Without a Cord

PlayStation 3 controllers are wireless and rechargeable. This makes gaming easier, as players do not have to worry about cords getting tangled or unplugged. The controller can be plugged into the console with a USB cord, in order to recharge the battery. You may unplug and activate the controller at anytime to use it. Once activated, the controller will be assigned a number, designating the number of players.

Instructions

  Check the charge of the controller, if it is plugged into the console, by holding down the "PS Button" in the center of the controller. Then check the status of the controller, indicated by a battery bar onscreen.

  Unplug the controller from the USB cord.

  Press and hold the "PS Button." Once activated, it will be assigned a player number -- indicated by a flashing light at the top of the controller.

  Turn off the controller by holding down the "PS Button" and selecting the "Shut off Controller" option.
