How to Hook Up a Fan on the PS3

The PlayStation 3 system emits heat when it is powered on. The system does have a built-in cooling fan but it can still overheat, causing an error known as the "yellow light of death." One way to prevent this error is to install an external fan on your PS3 system. This extra fan connects to the back of the system and provides the extra ventilation to keep your system from overheating.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the PS3 system and disconnect the power cable and the A/V or HDMI cable from the back of the unit.

    • 2

Line up the external fan add-on with the back of the PS3 system. The fan will plug directly into a power port on the back of the system.

    • 3

Insert the fan's power port connector into the power port on the back of the PS3 system and then press the fan into place against the back of the unit. The fan connects to the system via the power port on the right side using a clip that connects to the bottom of the system on the left side.

    • 4

Plug the power cord into the power port on the back of the fan. Plug the A/V or HDMI cable in to the corresponding port on the back of the system.

    • 5

Turn on the PS3 system. The fan will come on with the console.
