How to Get the Best Sound From a PS3 Sound Bar

The Sony PS3 Soundbar, also known as the PS3 Surround Sound System, is Sony's official solution to PlayStation 3 gaming in surround sound. While the Soundbar is pretty much plug and play, the PS3 needs to be configured to output the best sound settings for you to hear the difference in standard stereo and surround sound stereo.

Instructions

    • 1

Position the Soundbar System in the immediate front of the television unit. Leave at least one to two inches between the back of the Soundbar and the television.

    • 2

Connect the digital optical cable to the back of the Sony PS3. This is the smallest port on the back of the PS3.

    • 3

Connect the other end of the digital optical cable to the similar port on the back of the Soundbar.

    • 4

Connect the power cable to the back of the Soundbar and connect the other end into an open wall outlet.

    • 5

Select the "Settings" option on the PS3 menu. Select the "Sound Settings" sub heading.

    • 6

Select "Audio Output Settings" and "Optical Digital" on the next two screens that come up. Select the "Dolby Digital 5.1 Ch," "DTS 5.1 Ch." "AAC," "Linear PCM 2 Ch 44.1 kHz" and "Linear PCM 2 Ch 48 kHz" options. The Soundbar is now set to output the best possible sound from the PS3.
